Meet Colin , our Product Owner of Petroleum Systems Analysis

CONTENTS

Underexploited
Lowstand Fan Potential in the Northern Arabian Gulf
Welcome to the May issue of the Exploration Insights magazine ! Our regular readers will be familiar with the breadth of products that comprise the Neftex ® Insights portfolio . I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself , and highlight some of the work carried out by my team .
As the Product Owner of Petroleum Systems Analysis , I am responsible for our offerings related to organic geochemistry , rock properties , play analysis , and basin modeling . When brought together , these products give you the ability to assess petroleum system elements on a global to field scale , as well as enabling you to identify valid analogues . Examples of our work are highlighted in previous editions of this magazine , including : a geochemical approach to predicting hydrocarbon volumes ; our developments within geoscience analytics and data visualization ; and using 2D models to assess the pre-salt oil potential of Southern Mexico .
Lowstand plays are not a new phenomenon , but they are underexploited in the Middle East . This article assesses the potential for lowstand plays in the northern Arabian Gulf . We utilize Earth systems modeling to identify lowstand plays , consider source-to-sink relationships , and address reservoir quality .

Petroleum geology has always fascinated me , from seeing the nodding donkey at Kimmeridge Bay as a child , through my university studies at Southampton , to my career in the industry . Over my 13 years in the industry , I have seen that understanding the context of your data enables you to make better interpretations and models , which in turn leads to better decision making . Spending the majority of my time at Neftex , working on frontier regions or assessing play and field data , has further reinforced my desire to help our clients find the most valid analogues to aid the exploration for hydrocarbons .
We are committed to helping our customers overcome their exploration challenges . As we develop our technical content , delivery platforms , and next generation applications , we are always interested in hearing how we can better meet your needs . If you have a corporate subscription and would like to discuss the development of our petroleum element-focused products , or would like more information about our work on basin modeling or play analysis , please contact me .
The Ups and Downs of Short-term Cretaceous Sea-level Change
For general enquiries or support , please contact ExplorationSupport @ Halliburton . com
A quantification of the magnitude of short-term , eustatic sea-level change is achievable by a synthesis of globally derived sea-level estimates . For the Cretaceous , such a synthesis , suggests more moderate magnitudes than are often published . These findings have implications for stratigraphic prediction , and for the consideration of the drivers of short-term eustasy .

The Exploration Handbook — Plate Models
Plate models facilitate the reconstruction of geospatial data to their paleo-positions . They provide the canvas on which to interpret data and make predictions of resource occurrence in frontier regions . We explore the role of plate models in geoscience workflows , and how recent advances enable greater access to them .
